Series synopsis. Paul opens Galatians in a fight, not primarily a doctrinal fight, but an identity fight. Underneath the Judaizers' "different gospel" is a simpler, older disease being the desire to be validated by man rather than sent by God. Galatians 1 is essentially Paul's own testimony as the antidote to seeking attention. He is the model of a minister who stopped being a people-seeker and became a God-seeker.

The Holy Spirit: Frequently Asked Questions
  • Who is the Holy Spirit? A person of the trinity and the Godhead. Not a mist, a mystery, or a mere feeling. He is the power of God at work in resurrection and the presence of God made manifest on earth. Biblical descriptions: descended like a dove (Luke 3:22); mighty rushing wind and tongues of fire (Acts 2). These are ways He manifests Himself (He is not a dove, He is like a dove). To understand the trinity, think of water: liquid, ice, and steam are all water in different forms for different functions. God the Father is creator, provider, protector; Jesus is our redeemer and salvation; the Holy Spirit is our advocate, comforter, and giver of spiritual gifts.
  • What are the advantages of being in relationship with the Holy Spirit? He is the Spirit of truth, leading us with insight and foresight to discern when something isn't truthful. He is the Spirit of illumination and revelation, helping us read the Bible at greater depth (John 14:17, John 16:13). He gives spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12+14). He is our advocate against the enemy, reminding us of our redemption in Jesus and right-standing with God (John 14:26).
  • What's the difference between baptism in water and baptism with fire? Baptism in water is a public declaration that you are dying to your old life and alive in Christ: "God, you can have all of me." Baptism with fire is an activation of the Holy Spirit in your life (Matthew 3:11, Mark 1:8, Acts 1:5). You receive the Holy Spirit at salvation, but Holy Spirit baptism says, "God, I want all of you." There's no formula; it's about wanting relationship with Him (John 3:8). References: Acts 8:16-17, Acts 10:44-45, Acts 19:1-7.
  • If I don't speak in tongues, am I not filled with the Holy Spirit? No. Speaking in tongues is evidence of the Holy Spirit in your life, but not the only evidence. Fruits of the Spirit are also evidence (Galatians 5:22).
  • What does it mean to be a temple of the Holy Spirit? In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit was limited to the ark of the covenant or the tent of meeting, and came upon judges, priests, and prophets as a temporary anointing. But Jesus was the eternal sacrifice atoning for all mankind, which released the Holy Spirit without measure. Now we are the temple of the Holy Spirit: through Holy Spirit baptism His presence and power make residence within you at home, work, church, everywhere. When we gather, the Holy Spirit is manifest among us because we are carriers of the Spirit (Matthew 18:19).

Purity
  • Sexual immorality: The Bible tells us to flee from sexual immorality (1 Corinthians 6:18). The original Greek word is "porneia," encompassing any sexual activity outside the boundaries of a biblically defined marriage relationship, including premarital sexual activity, adultery, homosexuality, and use of pornography.
  • Biblical marriage: Matthew 19:4-5 (Jesus referring to Genesis 2:24). If we only see it as a rule, we miss that it's about honoring the sacredness of intimacy. 1 Corinthians 6:18 reveals that sexual sin is unique: joining sexually to someone other than your spouse enters an illegitimate one-flesh union, leaving emotional, psychological, and spiritual scars. God's design for sexuality is a gift to be enjoyed in the covenant of marriage. It's worth the wait.
  • Pornography: Porn users often experience lower mental health and well-being, along with guilt, shame, and isolation. Porn rewires the brain to crave fantasy over reality, offering counterfeit connection that leaves people lonelier and in more bondage. Shame keeps people in the dark, but repentance leads to freedom. God, in His kindness, wants to restore, not leave people in shame.

Heart on the Mission

Our ultimate goal is always to help people be awakened to the reality of Jesus. Our premarital process does that by pairing engaged couples with seasoned married couples to walk through the Prepare & Enrich curriculum, setting them up for a healthy and long marriage.

Procedure

We currently offer one package which includes a 6-week course and officiant. The cost is $450. We do not currently offer just one piece at a time.

Interest from the couple

When a couple is interested in premarital with VIVE Church, we first want to have their local Pastor reach out, either by meeting on site during a Sunday or via phone call. This allows the Pastoral Team to get to know them and ensure this is a good fit for the couple.

There is no list that qualifies or disqualifies couples; it is done on a case by case basis. Some main things we flag are:

  • Timing of the process. We do not rush the course. Our heart is to set them up well and give them time to walk through all areas brought up through the Prepare & Enrich curriculum with their facilitators.
  • Home church. Our heart with premarital is not just completion of a course, but to set up the couple in health and community. When we connect them well into the house at the beginning, they have support during their engagement and their marriage.
  • Once the Campus Pastor has agreed this course is a good fit for the couple, we will confirm that you can pass the link on to the couple. This is not a public link.
  • Couple submits the application and the Pastoral Team will review.
  • The Pastoral Team will respond with receipt of the application and additional details, and pair them with our premarital couples who have been trained to walk them through the program.
